Empowering Women Farmers Through Knowledge and Support

By AWCF Communications 3 min read

Officers of the Anlo Women and Care Foundation engaged with women farmers to share knowledge, provide guidance, and encourage practices that can improve their farming activities.

The initiative aims to empower women in agriculture by equipping them with the knowledge and support they need to become more resourceful, productive, and self-reliant.

Why Women Farmers Matter

Women form the backbone of agricultural production across the Anlo Traditional Area. They cultivate, process, and market food that sustains families and fuels local economies. Yet many continue to face limited access to training, inputs, financing, and markets.

AWCF’s engagement with these farmers focused on bridging that gap—sharing practical knowledge on soil health, planting techniques, post-harvest handling, and record keeping, while also listening to the challenges the women face daily.

Knowledge That Transforms Practice

During the sessions, officers walked the women through sustainable farming methods designed for local conditions. Topics included crop rotation, organic composting, water conservation, and pest management. The goal was simple: give the women tools they can apply immediately to improve yields and reduce losses.

Beyond technique, the conversations also covered financial literacy and group savings—helping farmers plan for the next season, invest in better inputs, and build resilience against unpredictable weather and market fluctuations.

Support Beyond the Field

Empowerment does not end with a single training session. AWCF is committed to walking alongside these women through follow-up visits, access to peer networks, and connections to partners who can provide additional resources and markets.

The Foundation believes that when women farmers are equipped with knowledge, supported with resources, and connected to opportunity, they become powerful agents of change—not just for their own families, but for the entire Anlo community.

Looking Ahead

AWCF will continue to expand its agricultural empowerment programs, reaching more women across the Volta Region. Future plans include demonstration farms, seed and input support, and cooperative formation to help women farmers access better prices and larger markets.

To every woman farmer who welcomed our team, shared her story, and committed to growing—thank you. You are the reason we do this work.
